The aim of the conference was to bring together scientists working in neighboring areas of mathematics and physics. Special session in memory of Sonja Kovalevski (S.Kovalevskaya) - the first female professor in Scandinavia and a great mathematician - has been held. The program of the conference contained lectures by experts organized with a special aim to attract young scientists from Scandinavia, Russia and other countries to the modern progress in differential equations and their applications to fundamental problems of modern science.
The key subjects of the conference were:
1. General theory of ordinary and partial differential equations,
2. Probabilistic methods and complex dynamics,
3. Operator theory, scattering theory, resonances,
4. Quantum few-body problems and design of quantum electronic devices.
Particular attention was given to modern developments of mathematical methods elaborated by S.Kowalewski.
50 minutes lectures by experts were followed by 30 minutes talks in the afternoons. Special session for postgraduate students was organized on tuesday.
We are planning to publish proceedings volume containing selected contributions in the series "Operator Theory: Advances and Applications". Please use style koval.cls, sample file sample.tex and mypaper file mypaper.tex to prepare your contribution. You need LaTeX 2E to prepare contribution. Please send your contribution by e-mail to pak@matematik.su.se. The deadline for submission of the manuscripts is December 31, 2000. All contributions will be refereed by at least two referees. Please let us know about your intention to contribute to the volume of proceedings.
